Darts player Michael van Gerwen failed to reach the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts. The triple winner lost in Wolverhampton – quite desperate – 16-10 against Englishman Luke Humphries, the world number 8. Van Gerwen is the world number 3.

Van Gerwen averaged 95.99 and Humphries did slightly better at 96.97. The Englishman, however, was more careful with the throw. He finished it with highs or a double-20.

Last year, Van Gerwen also lost in the quarter-finals to Michael Smith (16-13). The Dutchman won the major tournament in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Raymond van Barneveld managed to reach the last four at Wolverhampton on Friday. ‘Barney’ was responsible for knocking out title holder Gerwyn Price from Wales 16-13. Van Barneveld now faces Smith.
